The retail, telecommunications, health care, business services, and hospitality verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ leading job boards.
Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.
Total Job Openings:
Retail continued to head the list as it continues staffing growth since before the holiday season. Advance Auto Parts, Sears, Lowe’s, Kmart and Blockbuster were all top 10 hiring firms, while Macy’s and Walmart were also in the top hiring firms. Telecommunications firms are still looking with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon still staffing actively.
Health care continued strong hiring for the past half year, led by HCR ManorCare, Fresnius Medical Care, DaVita, Genzyme, Faulkner Hospital, UnitedHealth, Amedisys Home Health, Genesis Healthcare, Kindred Health Care, Quest Diagnostics and Kaiser Permanente and were 11 of the top 40 hiring companies. Business Service firms were next with IBM, Deloitte and CSC continuing to advertise for new hires.
Hospitality rounded out this week’s top employers, as Pizza Hut, Marriott and Hilton continued heavy job advertisements.

Business service is recruiting as IBM, Deloitte, Booz Allen, KPMG, CSC and PWC were included in the top job advertisers this week. Transportation showed strength as UPS and Ryder were heavily recruiting for staff.
Defense increased hiring for staff this week as Raytheon and Army National Guard Health made the top 10, while ManTech and General Dynamics were included in the top job advertisers.
